Contemplations on the New Story of Interbeing
Contemplating the New Story of Interbeing
I contemplate the new story of being — the new story of interbeing — and the belief in that new world that is to come. That firm belief can be cultivated. Confidence in that belief, in the new story, and the world it creates.
But not getting caught in reliance on that imagined world, because that world is a result of the choices we make and the actions we take right now.
We always have the choice in this moment to live in the new story of interbeing.
The journey to that world we are going toward is made up of every step of the journey. It’s a living, breathing, ongoing culmination of all the steps we take now.
It’s about the choice — making that choice again and again — the choice to step into interbeing.
It’s not easy right now because it’s new. It takes time to learn and embody.
But when we are there, it will be much, much easier. Peace will be obvious.
It takes time.
However, we can live in it now — as we move into this new relationship from Mother Earth, to Lover Earth.
Envisioning the World to Come
Just envisioning that.
That’s all — just envisioning.
Envisioning my gratitude.
Feeling my gratitude towards Earth.
That transition — from “Mother Earth” to “Lover Earth.”
Sitting atop a hill, gazing upon the landscape as the last light of day disappears into the horizon.
The light — the sun setting — faintly shining onto the trees.
The greenery. The mountains. The hills of greenery.
The water — watching the water, the river down below, the reservoir.
How it has shaped the Earth. How it has shaped the hills around it.
You can see the path of the water over millions of years.
It’s really beautiful.
The hills in the back — their silhouette fading into the fog.
The blue sky — fading into a purply, reddish gray as the sun sinks.
The color palette so deep. The greenery on the mountains is so rich.
It’s just a stunning visual — all these trees...
From Separation to Connection
And then — the car noise.
The loud motorcycle noise that maybe will finally be regulated away,
because we value the silence, the quiet of nature,
more than our loud, noisy engines.
We’ll care more about the effects we have on the things around us —
because we no longer believe the story that we are just separate selves going through the motions.
We remember our interconnectedness.
We treat others as ourselves.
Our sense of self expands — beyond the isolated individual.
It becomes an interconnected web.
You are in the web — and you are the web.
You are the whole web at the same time.
You recognize the effects you have — and care about them.
This is the shift —
from the narcissism of a child
to the recognition of relationship —
that the relationships between you and everything are you.
Which means... you are not only you —
you are everything, in a way.
That recognition brings with it empathy.
Becoming Vessels for the Story
We will build a new world.
A society that embodies this new story.
And that will happen as the story unfolds —
because they are interconnected. Interwoven.
They need each other.
One doesn’t happen without the other.
They’re integral — parts of a whole.
And we are vessels for that change.
We are simply allowing that change to occur within us.
Because we are held by a greater intelligence than ourselves.
And we are part of that intelligence.
And it is part of us.
We can let it move through us.
Be sensitive to its signals.
They come in the form of:
-
Bodily sensations
-
Gut feelings
-
Intuitions
-
All sorts of subtle signs
We just have to listen.
Sometimes listen closely.
Let that intelligence move through us.
Let ourselves embody it fully.
Closing Reflection
What do you guys think?
It’s not a quick, shallow enlightenment.
But maybe it is — I don’t know.
Maybe it’s something that takes time to develop.
And it’s very deep.
It’s a whole awakening.
An awakening of wholeness.
Yeah — an awakening of wholeness.
A gradual unfolding.
A gradual unfolding of wholeness —
and recognition of our part in the wholeness.
Falling Into the Old Story
Even as we embody this new story,
sometimes we might fall into the traps
of the old story —
And that’s part of it.
That’s part of our awakening.
And that’s okay.
We recognize the things we want to change,
but at the same time,
we accept things as they are — right now.
We accept this moment
exactly as it is,
and recognize the beauty
that is already here,
already present,
already shining.
And we absorb it —
be grateful for it —
take it in.
